Jolin is a music technology brand specialized in sound art installations and modular synthesizers led by Federico Intrisano - hardware designer and musician. The workshop is based in Milan, Italy.

In 2018, "Jolin Lab" came to life in Federico's garage. There, alongside Pedro Ferragut - software engineer, a first oscillator on a breadboard was born. As they watched the oscillator emit sounds using only a handful of components found at a local store, they felt an electrifying sensation, akin to magic. That spark of creativity continues to blaze and drives each one of Jolin’s designs.

As the project progressed through the years, it embraced scientific rigor and artistic excellence, supported by Marzo Zoppi - composer and sound designer, Giacomo Tombolan - electronic engineer, and Mihaela Costisanu - painter and 3D artist. Together, they engage in dynamic daily peer reviews, sharing knowledge and validating projects to drive innovative sound exploration and achieve technical excellence.

Jolin takes a boutique approach to audio electronics, meticulously crafting each piece using the finest components available on the market to ensure optimal performance and durability over time. Materials are carefully selected to guarantee quality and longevity.

Before reaching musicians' hands, all instruments undergo individual assembly and testing to ensure optimal performance and durability. Given that each instrument fulfills a unique need, its availability is carefully considered during the design phase to meet ongoing demand.

One of Jolin's notable installations is Stellaria a robotic flower designed to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature, and the impact of technology.

Active in the local scene, Jolin participates in events organized by collectives like Milano Modulare and Cosmonaut Tapes, which frequently host meet-ups and local fairs. Moreover, Jolin has been a consistent presence at international fairs such as Machina Bristronica in Bristol, Modular Day in Barcelona, and Superbooth in Berlin, demonstrating its commitment to the global modular synth community.

Jolin supports a DIY mindset by offering hands-on workshops, catering to everyone from absolute beginners to seasoned electronic engineers eager to explore analog components and integrated circuits firsthand. Each session focuses on building unique instruments and original designs, with an inclusive format ensuring guidance for all, from novices to experts, balancing creative discovery with technical skill-building.

Partnerships with artists and content creators such as BRiES, Quincas Moreira, Channel 37, Alvaro Küper and Blunted Spaghetti, elevate the clarity and expression of Jolin's offerings, harmonizing them with the distinctive vision and music style of each collaborator.

Looking ahead, Jolin will continue to explore the interaction between humans and machines through the kaleidoscope of modular synthesizers. Here, expressions and sounds once deemed impossible find voice.
